Hey, everyone,
Today, I’m reviewing Love the Sinner by Avril Ashten. There’s really not much to say as an introduction. I read this book for my Foundations in Romance class.
Sorry this post is late. I took a week off and went on a holiday vacation. I had a great time, but couldn’t upload this review before I left or during my weekend vacation.
My review will be out on my channel in a few months. If you want to be the first to see it, consider subscribing. I release videos three to four times a week. To get you started, here’s my Blind Reviews series.
Synopsis
Two men from opposite sides of the law catch each other’s interest. Tiptoeing the balance between romance and work, they explore their newfound attraction.

This is the first in the Brooklyn Sinners series.
Review
The prose is great. Accessible and easy to read.
I have mixed feelings on the pacing. On one hand, due to the story and genre, the fast pacing makes sense. However, it’s too fast. It makes it hard to connect to the characters. It also makes the story feel heavily contrived.
I also have mixed feelings about the themes. They’re interesting, but I don’t think they’re given enough exploration. They feel added for no reason. Again, events feel contrived, so the themes feel like they’re there to be there.
The characters are established well. I don’t hate them, but I also don’t love them. I love the relationship dynamics between families, but, individually, they’re okay.
I don’t like the romance. Instalove has never called to me. It feels unbelievable. I don’t have enough time to root for the characters and their relationship.
This specific romance also doesn’t feel romantic because there is unnecessary violence between the couple I’m supposed to root for. There’s also a lot of unnecessary jealousy. It’s irritating.
Conclusion
Overall, this story has a great concept, but the execution is lacking. I’m very disappointed because I was really looking forward to it. I rated it two stars. It could have been much better.
