Review

The prose is great. Poetic and accessible, it’s easy to read.

The pacing is great. It works for the way the story is written. It’s slow, but it builds everything up really well.

The one thing that could bother readers is the way the story is written. The plot loosely connects the events, but it’s not a big focus in the story. If you’ve watched anime, it’s similar to slice of life. The most similar shows I can think of that are written this way are Winx Club and Avatar: The Last Airbender.

The biggest theme in this story is what America is. Gaiman does a great job exploring this theme. The United States is very culturally diverse in my opinion. The story explores this aspect of the United States as Shadow travels to different parts of the country.

The characters are great. Very well established and developed. The best part of the story.

Conclusion

Overall, I loved this story. I had a lot of fun reading it. I rated it four stars.

Author’s Note

Hey, everyone! Thanks for reading! I hope you enjoyed today’s review.

I’m very happy I read this book. If I remember correctly, I read it right after The Restaurant at the End of the Universe by Douglas Adams. I may have been reading alongside other books, but I can’t remember. Whatever the case, I read it at the perfect time.

Have you read this book? If you did, did you enjoy it? If you haven’t read it, do you plan to read it? Let me know in the comments.

Next week, I’m reviewing His Until Midnight. It’s a recent romance I read. I have a lot of opinions.

My review for American Gods will be out in my channel in 2023. To be the first to see it, subscribe! I usually release videos on Wednesdays, Fridays, and Sundays at 5:00 AM Eastern Standard Time. That way, you have something to watch when you wake up. To get you started, here are my reviews on The Sandman.
