I reach into myself,
a barrel of blinding light pushing toward her.
I can’t see her.
She’s hiding.
She must be planning,
an angry, irritated, wrathful warrior waiting to strike.

She usually sleeps,
but she chose to strike today,
extending her claws and tearing at skin,
leaving nothing in her wake before returning to her lair.

I’m surrounded by her when I find her.
She seems to be darkness,
but she’s me,
made of anger and barely restrained temper.
Always hiding
because I push her away.
I force her to hide
because I don’t need them to see her,
but I can’t stop her
when she strikes.

I reach into that empty light and take her cold hand.
I hold it tight as she attempts to pull away,
anger in every movement.

She has a right to hate me,
right?
I push her away.
All the time.
Shouldn’t she hate me?
Sometimes,
I hate her.
She never listens.
She never leaves.
I can never be free of her.

My love.
My dear darling darkness.
Sleep.
All is safe.
No harm will come to you.

She does sleep,
but I know
it’s only for a short time.

Author’s Note

Hey, there! Thanks for reading! I hope you enjoyed my poem. I want to share some more of my creative writing.

I wrote this poem last year. During my first semester at university, I took a poetry class. I wrote seven poems, but I only kept three of them. I’ll be sharing the others soon.

During this particular assignment, we were given Pokemon cards. Our titles were based on the phrase written there. I was given Nihilego and this was the phrase.

I hope you enjoyed this poem as much as I loved writing it. I’d love feedback if you have any. I’m always looking to improve.

I’m currently working on two fantasy projects. If you want to stay updated on them, check out my YouTube channel and consider subscribing. Thanks in advanced! See you next time!
