To win 50000 dollars, Mack enters a competition. The challenge? Hide and not be found in an abandoned park, something she’s very good at. Counting her, there are 14 other competitors and the competition lasts seven days. However, when competitors begin to disappear, Mack realizes the contest is more sinister than she originally thought.
My first experience with Kiersten White was The Conqueror’s Saga series. It was very enjoyable, but, at the time, I didn’t truly appreciate it. I want to read it again to see if my feelings change. I’ve read other books from this author and have loved every story.
I read Hide in one day. From my understanding, this is White’s adult debut. It’s the first thriller I read from her. I love this book.
White seems to have changed her writing style. It’s third person present and we see everyone’s point of view. I’m hoping to see it more in her books. I don’t know if she’s used this style before since I haven’t read all her books. I look forward to reading more in this writing style.
The characters are developed enough for the length of the book. We get just enough information to know who they are and to care about a few. If it was a longer book, I believe we would know more about these characters.
The themes are well developed and explored. The main theme is about previous generations doing things that affect the current one. How the previous generation will constantly complain about the current one while not taking into account that time has changed and that, although they may have done some good, some of the things they’ve done affect us. They take no responsibility for any of it, but blame us for what they think is wrong and judge us for being ourselves. For not conforming to how things used to be.
My only critique in this book is the romantic plotline. It doesn’t fit. It feels rushed and isn’t developed enough.
Overall, this is a great book. I rated it four stars. I really enjoyed my experience and hope to see more thrillers from White.
